Practices
Since Table Rock Tea Company is an actual tea farm growing real tea (Camellia sinensis), we implement a variety of different practices that vary between those used in the greenhouse, in the field, and in production.
Greenhouse practices: Greenhouse plants are fed once per month with 20-20-20 water soluble fertilizer. Sun sensitivity of tea seedlings does not allow for the use of horticultural oils (such as neem) that would sunburn the seedlings, so for aphid control (in the greenhouse only) we apply Azera (organic pyrethrin and Azadiracthtin) alternated with Acephate 97UP only as needed when outbreaks occur.
Field practices: Field production plants are fed with a quarterly application of liquid fertilizer and micronutrients 3x/year (we skip the winter quarter as the plants are dormant). Weed control (on walkways only, in pre-production fields only) is performed with a combination of mechanical (weed eating) and limited chemical (targeted glyphosate) methods. No pesticides or herbicides are used in production fields.
Production: The manufacture of tea is a simple process involving air withering, mechanical rolling, and oven drying. The majority of additional ingredients are whole milled herbs except for certain flavors that use natural oil extracts (apricot, bergamot, etc.). Preservatives are not used. Tea bags (sachets) are biodegradable plant based, without strings, tags, foil, or plastics.
Known Allergens: We occasionally co-process blends that contain tree nuts, after which machines are terminally cleaned.
